    I agree. I scrutinise everything I buy, as you suggest, freshness plays a vital aspect, depending on the product. For example, a best before date on snack chips means far less than the best before date on yogurt or juice. With the latter I would pay the full price as the goodness of the product diminishes day by day. I'm also carefull with meat products and basically anything perishable.

    When I was buying the cheap bananas (good looking, I may add), a shopper commented that Coles's last longer...I said that maybe it's a case of what they put into them!

    The key is to be vigilant. Too many shoppers just grab from a shelf and place into the trolley.

    Just a point on freshness. I always get from the back of the fridge. But also be aware that some poor staff don't rotate and the fresher can be at the front. Check dates and read labels, it doesn't take long and soon it is 2nd nature.
