Cause China used to produce 70% of the world's flake graphite before Syrah. Just like how WTI and Brent oil are used as the standard. There is also a European benchmark for graphite which is significantly higher than the Chinese benchmark. Unfortunately Syrah hasn't done the hard yards to sell directly into Europe and USA.
