I have recently started to check out Google trends for some stocks as a matter of interest. It seems that search query volume on a stock typically leads or at least shows some positive correlation to share price movements and this has been demonstrated numerous times in published works. It makes sense since people are always going to research a stock prior to buying it so in a way it's a eye into their mind before they've made the purchase decision.Though it's important not to confuse correlation with causation and it will work much better with large stocks that high query volume. It would be interesting to do a regression analysis for the Google trends SVI of genetic technologies against movements in its share price and see if there is any significant correlation or not. On first inspection you can see a real peak at IPO and also a rising trend atm.
