Unfortunately there not great examples but qan and tls entered the low cost market with jetstar and beyond from scratch which is the only way to start a low cost format if you are a bloated co like tls,qan,wes and wow.
In bentleigh there is a sml target similar size to aldi and imo should be an wes aldi business model store even if there is a coles and wow nearby,its to small to be a target.
I went to aldi the other day (following my friend) and absolutely their meat is cheap and good quality in fact fresher looking than the 2 nearby wow's,i should shop there but can't be bothered..
Wow is playing into wes and aldi's hands,three stupid but imo important examples,i did like thin captain biscuits,i askede the wow person she said discontinued,just so happens the women next to me said she also wanted them.Same a chutney,now i must make an inconvient trip to coles to buy the chutney and of course you end up buying more.Went to masters to buy some cabinet handles,bought the handles then asked where are the stencils to position handles on doors,masters had no idea what i was talking about so i had to go to bunnings and buy stencil,they have 2 or 3 varieties.
This is not rocket science,and i don't agree it should take years to turn wow around,they just need a good ceo and a new board. start with poaching an aldi executive and converting the smaller stores to the aldi business models imo.whether wes or wow.
