I haven't been fully briefed re the Fiji conference. In a brief converation with the ALC Chairman this morning he said that the indiginous people affected by sea bed mining in Papua New Guinea are angry that it takes place and that it completely wrecks the environment. His summative statement in fact was that anybody who spoke at the conference and had experienced seabed mining said that it wrecked the environment and that they didn't like it.

The Enviro Officer turned up wearing a floral shirt he purchased in Fiji and not his ALC outfit, I guess to poke fun at us who didn't go to the conference. I thought that was pretty funny. Do you think something like that is funny?
