An explanation for everyone - the informed who know they are confused and for the confused who do not know they are uninformed:
I have previously used the example of shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic to explain my view on a lot of the "facts" (actually opinions) presented on this thread that are misleading in painting a positive investment outlook for SDL. It is a particular concern of mine (and others) that many reading the blatant misinformation and irresponsible rubbish on this thread are suffering significant and entirely avoidable losses and will continue to do so.
In this post I am going to continue this example with specific reference to an often repeated claim:
"I only provide facts on the Projects, not share price, present or future. There is a difference. I don't give advise (sic) on Buy , Hold or Sell. In fact I don't give any advise (sic). I research the Countries involved, the Projects and anything to do with Iron Ore and the Region, that is all. I leave it up to anyone who wants to read my posts."
Most of the "facts" in question are akin to a fictional captain of the Titanic standing on the deck an hour after an iceberg has torn a gaping hole in the hull and proclaiming:
- This is the fastest ship ever built;
- It is unsinkable;
- We are going to beat the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing;
- I have just googled "Trans Atlantic traffic numbers" and it is a FACT that in a few years time the Anglo German Tourism Foundation is expecting a 200% increase in trans atlantic passenger numbers from 1914 to 1918 around the new friendship alliance;
- Tomorrow evening I am having the jazz band play Waltzing Matilda on the back deck...
When a concerned informed passenger who has looked over the side and seen the cold dark Atlantic sea rushing into the gaping wound in the ship and says "Er captain I think the boat is sinking - there is a lot of water coming in to a hole in the hull"...
The Captain replies "Please do some RESEARCH. You know nothing. I have already told you this ship is unsinkable. it is a fact. And so is the fact that we will break the record. In fact this is the best boat in the world. There is no better boat. You have no idea that the ship has eighteen engines which are all brand new and are each capable of 10,000 horse power. I have read 20,000 pages on information on the construction and operation of the engines and I can tell you that the engines are the best. You know nothing".
Informed Passenger: "but I think the boat is sinking"
Captain: "The catering on this ship is the best on the planet. We have the chef from the Ritz on board and he can make anything you want. the boat is superb. It is the best boat."
Uninformed Passengers (to other passengers): "I think perhaps we should get in the lifeboat? I think the informed passenger may be correct."
Captain: "You are a spy paid by a competing cruise line to convince passengers to get into the lifeboats when there is no need. I have proof that you are the agent of the devil. All the passengers on this boat have made the right decision and are going to be safe and happy because of my facts."
Other uninformed passengers: "Hooray - thumbs up for the captain. Thank god for the captain. Good information - and thanks for the research on the Egyptian cotton sheets in the first class cabin, very useful to know and makes me feel batter about the cost of my ticket to New York. I agree with you this is the best ship and we will break the record. You are great - you tell us exactly what we want to hear and we love it".
Some time later:
Passenger: "you are responsible for many people not getting into the lifeboat when they could have"
Captain: "I do not give advice. I only provide facts on the Ship, not sinkings, present or future. There is a difference. I don't give advice on get in or out of lifeboat. In fact I don't give any advice at all. I have never advised anyone to take a ship or not to take a ship. I research the Ship involved, the Engines and anything to do with the catering and the jazz band, that is all. I leave it up to anyone who wants to read my posts and it is up to them."
My tip is it is time to find a lifeboat.
SDL has been sinking for a long time and right now its only the stern decks you can see above water.
It isn't coming back out of the water however good you may think the catering on the top deck could be.
