don't get me wrong eagle, but so many chairmen and women seem to be figureheads and symbols of authority - I've not seen many that actually roll their sleeves up much, except for when they sit at the head of a Board room table taking directors through agendas, and counting votes, and sometimes casting some... they are a necessary component for healthy boardrooms, but away from those rarified spaces, I see many being largely overpaid for the few duties they perform..

lucy undoubtedly brings loads of experiece and acumen to the position of chairwoman, but I have always personally viewed her talents in the Sydney context, where married to Malcom, and being the daughter of Frosty, she worked the Sydney society scene well, and to her financial benefit - and Sydney ain't no kids playground, to be sure..

but her elevation to the PRR Chair I always viewed as a bit of a PR stunt - ovarian cancer therapy to save lives/woman chair/strong female business figure - complimentary symbolism - other than that, she couldn't have taken on a lesser role within the company, as she lacks the industry experience - remember, most of her previous roles have been in politics, where the leg work is performed by the foot soldiers who are employed long term, and who see politicians come and go... but saying that, she does have exceptional talents for addressing forums and people alike, though I just don't see her having sufficient oppportunities to leverage those skills as the Chair of PRR

anyway, the Chair is often seen and unheard in many a company, usually concentrating on Board dynamics and the overall well being of the company, but particularly starting at a non-executive level, then moving down..

they are plum jobs for those in the club if you can score them, that's for sure

having yapped on this long, (slow news day as I said), I wish she would take to the public stage more often, just to display a strong leadership at the helm of the company, that is in-sync with all of its chief, and especially the CEO - sharing the spotlight in this manner helps share the burden of running a public company, while it generates great confidence in investors
