That's a strange claim.
The author of the article is a Professor of Engineering at Australian National University. The author is funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, not the coal industry. The article was published in The Conversation, which has by far the highest editorial standards of any media outlet in the country, as every author is an academic and subject-matter-expert, and each article is independently fact-checked.
It is a fact that the process of moving electricity via hydrogen has an extremely low round-trip efficiency, and it is logical to conclude that this presents an enormous barrier to commercialising green hydrogen.
