The friend got emotional and shouted that radiation coming from the phone is a different type of radiation coming from the waste! How can you argue against such stupidity?
The friend is actually right there. Phones produce non-ionising electromagnetic radiation. Lynas ore produces radioctivity, at very low levels.
You might tell your father that a better analogy is the granite benchtop, or a walnut!
