Only local capacity the FIRB would be protecting is plant breeding (canola). But there is no shortage of plant biotech companies now moving into Oz with the effective removal of the bans on GM.
Should simply come down to price and who really values the asset base of Nufarm ... I don't think there is any need to rush from the Chinese perspective while grain prices deteriorate. Rathborne in holding firm is betting on the return of high grain prices. But there is also the ETS bearing down on herbicide and fertiliser maker profitability. Both sectors consume a lot of energy ...
Both parties definately have negotiating power ...
