Well from personal experience, I can tell you that 2 years ago Aconex was used extensively by my clients.
Then in the last 12 months, I have seen an increase in use of Procore, Sharefile and Dropbox.

Previously if 10 clients were using Aconex, that has now changed to
1 Procore
2 Sharefile
2 Dropbox
5 Aconex

Personally I think Aconex is the most fully developed of the systems, but it is still a big pain to use it, and any job that requires the use of it, I automatically add 15% to our quote to cover for the extra admin work required to use it.

So I would respectfully disagree with your statement, and think that Aconex had better lift their game... or buy out their competitors.
