One thing that BHP is being cautious of this time is taking the foot of the throttle too much and missing the start of the next rebound like they did in the late 90's. Or at least so they have been telling us so far, but they may not be able to tell us any different till after the ASX has been informed. We may or may not get a change in direction at work by the end of the week. Time will tell no doubt.
Also every cent the AUD drops against the USD is about 0.4 cent increase to profit in AUD to Aussie mining companys, so some carefull calculations would have to be done to accuratly work out exactly how much the 18 odd billion after tax profit from last year will change.
