Not sure if they did or did not hence used the word appeared. Oil water contact is usually defined by wireline logs, not sure if they were run or not.

'Usual standards' for completing a producer involves running a cement bond log to check before perforating that correct zonal isolation has been achieved. Don't know if this was done or not. As another poster has suggested flow behind the pipe then maybe not.

If they haven't drilled into the water contact then where would you suggest the water is coming from? Coning in?
