First of all Gvt owned assets are no different to privately owned assets.
The private OWNERS of AMP/NRMA benefited from the sale/transaction.
The Government OWNERS of Telsta/CBA/Qantas benefited from the sale. The politicians did NOT "steal" the money they received....(extreme language and inaccurate )

The Hawke/Keating governments (between 1983/96) commenced the sell off of two of these Gvt. owned enterprises.

As far as selling off government real estate goes. I agree with you, about this. (Finally, we agree on something !)
I was strongly against the sale of Telstra, and to a lesser extent Qantas and CBA, just as I think it totally wrong that governments of all persuasions, federal and state, have sold off other public utilities.
Governments unfortunately have to do this to get cash for their ever increasing social welfare programs and to cover their wastage.
But with your "social conscience", why don't you donate back the legal and stamp duty rebates you mentioned you received? Particularly the gvt stamp duty.
(Generally, most socialists are only good at spending OPM "other peoples money")
And a word or warning on the "Tax-deferred" distributions. Account for them, or you might finish up looking like all Wayne Swans budgets.
