    You say

    "it is only worth what someone is willing to pay today"

    That is simply another one of those statements of "common wisdom" that are totally wrong.

    E.g. If you try to sell your house today but there are no buyers, does that mean your house is worth nothing?

    In truth, the statement should be "the price today is $x but it is worth $y"
