PAGBILAO, Quezon -- The first Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) terminal and storage facility in the country is expected to be completed by the end of next year, Energy World Corp. (EWC), proponent of the project, told various industrial companies here on Friday.

Graham Elliott, project director of EWC, led representatives of small and medium industrial companies from Metro Manila in visiting the site of the LNG terminal in Bgy. Ibabang Polo, here.

“Within 18 months, a natural gas terminal hub will be operational and we plan to put up satellite receiving terminals in the country for easy reach and accessibility by industrial gas users,” Elliott assured prospective partners which included San Miguel Yamamora Packaging, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Columbian Motors, Dragon Asia Rolling Mills, among others, before they were led to the site of the construction of two storage tanks measuring about 80 meters in diameter each.

Elliott made the brief presentation of the LNG project flanked by Cheung Chi Hang, project manager, and Eduardo Rodriguez, Jr., son and namesake of former Quezon Gov. Eduardo Rodriguez who represented his father.

Deodennis Asistin, operations engineer of the project, said each tank has the capacity to hold 130,000 cubic meters of LNG and the site development will be finished in two months after which construction will start right away.
The project consists of the development, construction and operation of a LNG hub terminal and re-gasification facility and will be built in two phases. Phase 1 includes construction of 130,000-cubic meter LNG storage tank, re-gasification facility, jetty and supporting infrastructure while phase 2 includes the construction of additional LNG storage tank with the same capacity.

Imported LNG will be sourced from the gas fields of EWC in Australia and Indonesia and stored in LNG storage tanks and then distributed by sea via ship or barge and on land with road tankers or containerized cargo to small and medium-sized costumers.

In January 2011, the Department of Energy awarded the country’s first permit for the development, construction and operation of the LNG Hub Terminal and Re-gasification Facility to EWC.
