what that means is that a wireline logging company is employed to do the job. They have a suite of tools that are lowered on a cable with signals coming back to surface, and can undertake various methods to make continuous physical measurements as the cable moves up or down the hole.
From such measurements they can determine precisely if they are opposite a joint, and set off the charge there.
