COCKATOO Coal has announced a proposal to establish coal stockpiles and a train load out facility east of Kianga Creek, near Moura.
A Cockatoo Coal spokeswomen said the project was in the early design and scoping phase and would be on a block of land immediately to the east of Kianga Creek.
"If approved by the Queensland Government and the Banana Shire Council, it is proposed that construction will commence in 2014," the spokeswomen said.
"A comprehensive environmental impact assess- ment that includes noise, dust, and water studies is currently being undertaken.
"Approval of the train load out facility will only occur if we meet the strict regulatory framework of both the Queensland Government and Banana Shire Council," she said.
"If approved, appropriate controls and constraints will be implemented by Cockatoo Coal to minimise any adverse impact on the Moura community. We intend to host another community meeting in Moura, likely to be during December."
The spokeswomen said community consultations on the use of Middle Road and other haulage options were taking place, with community concerns being considered in any further development of Middle Road as a preferred option.
"The use of Middle Road, as well as other haulage options, is being considered as a product coal transport corridor.
"Should Middle Road be approved as the transport corridor for coal haulage, best practice traffic, noise and air quality impact assessments and mitigation strategies will be implemented to avoid and minimise impacts on the community," she said.
A community information session and update will be held at Moura RSL on December 4, from 6pm.
Issues include the proposed train load out facility, Baralaba North coal mine expansion, the Baralaba South project and terms of reference for the Baralaba South environmental impact statement.
