@Wuey72 , Great Question. TCL has 50% Ownership of the M5. Chart below of Sydney Orbital Network ownership for TCL. M5 is a serious Cash Cow, with Total M5 revenue of $261m in FY16, +13.4% on FY15. It also has peak congestion at times at 11pm at night
Here is something very interesting working for TCL and the M5. Trips from Central to the Airport by Rail pay an access charge. A fare one way now is i think about $17. A long time back i did a piece of work on the Transfer Benefit to TCL/Road. Will need to cross check now but basically i estimated 12% of trips taken on the M5 would be diverted from road to rail if the Access Charge was removed. The contract terms prohibit removal of this Access Charge without significant concession payments, so the Government in my view will not take this path. Basically 2.5m Trips are handed to M5/TCL a year.
