What no-one is mentioning is that REE prices have been in free-fall for some time. No-one can doubt their strategic value, but what sort of pricing can they use to build a business case around? No doubt the Chinese are acutely aware of this and will supply just enough to keep customers from looking for substitutes and/or deter investors in potential alternative sources. PEK firstly needs to promote themselves to strategic backers who understand the long term demand fundamentals and the quality of the resource. Only one or two of the best projects will stand up in this volatile price environment and industry backing will be crucial.
