From Sundays herald sun several weeks ago in the property section a unit in or near Melb cbd sold for 450 k in 2008 and was re sold for 400k several weeks ago . That's minus 11% in 3 years . If they didn't pay stamp duty initially [bought off the plan]it isn't so bad but if they did pay sduty and add selling costs they would of dropped between 80-100k in 3 years [22%]. Renting would of been a better option for those poor folk .
