traveller - you already know who the clowns are (sky news) in the financial media and you must also know who the clowns are in the mid-tier mining company sphere (am and board).

in the first instance - disregard anything coming out of sky news and perhaps compare everything else you see, read or hear with something like the business spectator.

in the second instance - learn to avoid stocks associated with known losers like am (wmc / zfx / ozl).

it's all about learning to differentiate the wheat from the chaff - you have already demonstrated your ability to do so in the financial media now (just like me and a whole slew of others) you have to learn to dismiss companies with bad management from your investment strategy.

you have raised a valid point but the media isn't about to change (in fact it's probably going to get worse) so don't hang about waiting for any improvements. ultimately it's up to your own individual assessment of known facts to decide what the truth is and what the spin is.
