There is little doubt the fall-off in car sales is NOT economy related. It is simply the fear that buying a standard ICE car will result in a very poor resale value come time to change down the track. My daughter went through the process a few months ago and settled for a hybrid.
As an aside, she has been absolutely amazed at the improved fuel economy.
