While Liberal trolls sharpen their claws to demonise asylum seekers (up hill and down dale) there are three relevant stories in today's Canberra Times:
1: PNG accuses the Coalition of "misrepresenting" the deal PNG did with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. That's nothing new for the Liberals. John Howard altered Navy photos of a refugee boat to make it appear that refugees were throwing their children overboard to bully Australia into caving in to their demands. Howard won an election with trickery and lies. Abbott is Howard's alter boy.
2: Former Liberal PM Malcolm Fraser is calling for a royal commission into Australia's offshore concentration camp Gulag, likening it to Stalin's Siberian Gulag of forced labour camps. Malcolm Fraser has what Rudd and Abbott lack: Noblesse oblige. Its literal meaning is "nobility obliges" the nobles to treat the commoners with dignity, respect and fairness. Hence Malcolm champions the refugees rotting in prisons.
3: Investors in Canberra's housing market are punting that Rudd (not Abbott) will win the election. If investors thought Abbott would win with his Sack/Relocate public servants policy, investors would dump and run. BUT money is pouring into Canberra:
