You talk as if property is like shares, which is not.
Do you know why they call it real estate?
It's because it's real and to a degree you can do as you please with it, you might get to vote at the AGM of a company you have shares in but you have stuff all control.
One other factor that sets property apart, every body needs some where to live regardless of if they are employed or not
