I think the half year reporting is going to go along way in showing what the banks look/feel/need to do.

With commodities at these prices, surely it is entirely unsustainable for the small and mid spec commodity players (perhaps even the big boys - santos has a lot of debt). Presuming they have debts to banks that cant be repaid, leading to a rise in bad debts that hit the banks, then I agree with you that rates will go for a little jog up the hill.
