    the problem with a democracy ... Generally the majority of people are ... well lets say not intelligent. So if they are having the say on issues where the best solution to a problem is against the uninformed 'will of the people', and that problem should it not be solved could result in extreme economic hardship, what does that say about democracy!
    Examples of poor exercise of democratic will in Australia:

    1. Prevention of genetically modified crop introduction - there are novel oilseed crops available now which are GM and require up to a quarter of the fossil fuel based inputs we drench our crops with currently. Food is straight from an oil spigot currently!

    2. Nuclear Power - would allow preservation of current fossil fuel reserves. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and guarantee a more reliable price range for the cost of energy. Energy security also maintains global stability.
