At least with moving around you learn what you do and dont like about house's for when you do buy.
you are right about real estate agents, most have no idea of the laws either.
With the lock you could have got the lock smith out and charged them back, if they refused you just take it to tribunal and they would compel the agent to apply.
On the other hand, get to know your agent you rent from and they will look after and favour you, I have moved before back in the time when there was no rentals available, they just said tell me the house you want and you will get it.
you shouldnt have needed to go to court over the bond, you need to agree to them withholding it for them to get away with it, if not the agent has 1 month by memory to appeal giving it back to you.
when they tried to kick you out for renovations, you could have appealed it, and asked for quotes. if the agent just wanted more rent could have asked how much probably offered it. they couldnt have hiked it up too much just for that.
you need to know how to play their game. they are a nasty bunch but if you punch em back in the nose they tend to leave you alone. Dont call, dont email, just rock up to their place of busines and confront them, they are not so tough that way
