currently, there is a woman named Michele Bachmann, who is is a high profile Republican member of the United States House of Representatives and a canditate for the 2012 United States presidental election

Michele Bachmann has given the impression to some she believes in these prophecies and also the impression these prophecies are rationale for war with Iran (see You Tube)

Although the Biblical prophecies were related to Roman persecution of the Christians, fundamentalist Christians give the impression they wish to maintain the relevence of these prophecies by using them as a self-fulfilling prophecy for the creation of war

Many Christians believe the existence of the state of Israel & a final war is a requirement for their salvation

My impression is these prophecies are essentially no different from the rationales Islamic terrorists use to justify their behaviour
