Another small but real problem with the current propofol...

Another small but real problem with the current propofol formulation is that it is quite painful during infusion and that a good proportion of patients remember this after their procedure.

Recently a modified formulation was introduced to my workplace, marketed substantially on the basis of causing less pain. The advantage clinically seems to be pretty marginal at best.

If POH's water based propofol is much less painful, anaesthetists will be demanding to use it.

There is no adequate substitute for propofol available at the moment (as beautifully demonstrated by complaining anaesthetists yesterday and today, when our stock was withdrawn to pharmacy).

The market is really big - almost all surgical cases and plenty of sedation type cases like colonoscopy.
