RNT says there are about a 1,000,000 private landlords this is supported by the ATO figures for 2012 being 1,900,000 taxpayers owning one or more properties with an aggregate income for tax purposes of $34 billion and in my view it's more than reasonable given the dominance of investors in the marketplace that 4 years on there are a million private landlords in Australia
