Lithium tie-up on the cards
Twin trading halts from the joint venture partners of the Mt Cattlin lithium project in Western Australia have sparked speculation of a merger.
Galaxy called a halt ahead of a "potential corporate transaction involving an acquisition" while its joint venture partner General Mining Corporation referenced a "potential corporate control transaction".
Street Talk understands the companies are expected to come out of the halt on Monday to reveal the deal.
Galaxy, the larger company with a market capitalisation of $511 million as opposed to General Mining's $191 million, is expected to take the reins of the project, which re-commenced mining in March.
Galaxy previously wholly-owned the operation which it mothballed in 2012 before announcing in 2015 General Mining had agreed to an earn-in deal to re-start the mine.
