For you Aussie guys who might not be up with the play.
There's a Green Party MP named Catherine Delahunty. She is retiring from Parliament. The Green Party doesn't like mining on a good day.
PK are on some kind of road trip to visit her and deliver their petition (Duncan is wearing his best hat):
As we know, the petition is filled with fake names and has been subject to a computer script adding names to it. There might be more evidence of this that comes out. Perhaps someone was recording all three petitions for the last few weeks, perhaps a computer coder captured the data. Does it seem rational to you that one New Zealander signs a petition every minute from 12pm to 5am every day? Hmm, makes you wonder. More to come on this, it gets better.
Anyway, so tomorrow at 5pm Delahunty is giving her valedictory:
A valedictory is where you stand up and have a session to say whatever you want to say goodbye to Parliament. I am fortunate enough to have a leather bound set of Parliamentary Debates for the 2000-2002 Parliament and as I read over the valedictory speeches I note that they are usually tame.
I wonder whether Delahunty intends to make her valedictory some kind of rant about conservation mining and conservation land (even if it is adjacent to State Highway 2, and all the other reasons why a mining site is a mining site).
But I digress. At the moment there is a rather large scandal that has hit the Green Party in NZ. Their co-leader announced the other day that she committed benefit fraud in the late 1990s. She said she
had to. She said she had flatmates and received income from them and didn't declare it. Then it turned out the flatmate was her mother. All the while, she was studying law at university and running for a political joke party instead of working a job like everyone else. Then it turned out she also lied about where she lived so she could vote in a different electorate - hard to morally justify that.
Anyway, so she refused to quit as co-leader. Today,
two of the longest serving, most experienced and probably most rational Green Party members quit the party. They quit in protest of the lying, fraudulent garbage presented by their co-leader as acceptable behaviour.
So, what does this matter to NTL? Well, tomorrow the Green Party will be busy in their caucus discussing how to get themselves out of this mess. How to remove two quitters from their political list. The media will be focused on their lies, their rubbish. So, not that anyone was actually going to pay attention to Catherine Delahunty anyway, but it makes me wonder whether the Green Party can go through another scandal if this petition blows high sky before or after she speaks about it or does anything with it.
Interesting times - PK are heading to Wellington to hand their crooked petition to a party with a co-leader who is a self confessed beneficiary fraudster and liar.
