GrahamMac, so what is wrong with PNG being a refuge for refugees?

As the article below points out, the roll of the UN convention is still fulfilled settling refugees in PNG.

But PNG is a shithole?

Yeah. It is. And now it’s our shithole – and you know what else? It’s a signatory to the United Nations’ 1951 Refugee Convention.
PNG can deliver the central, crucial element of the refugee system: freedom from persecution.

It provides haven for genuine refugees and enormous discouragement for everyone else.
