I think that the more likely explanation is that our brains have evolved sufficiently to invent a God but not sufficiently enough to precisely explain that invention.
"We are sentient, but may need to get some rocket boosters for our brains to finally conceive God!"
Or sufficiently to conceive that there isn't a God.
