I think you just answered your own question. It's simply a punting stock. If there is anyone out there who actually "invests" in companies like this they need to be taken out the back and put to sleep. They may as well bury their money in their yard and hope for a money tree to spring up - better odds of success. Like you I am incredulous about why stocks like these exist - but they do. Suffice to say, they are then treated much like the village pro - everyone's had a ride. Leave it at that.
