I spent more than 40 years in the corporate world, and I too was a decision maker - but that's not the issue. This is:

You can't say scooter can sit where he likes, but in the same breath say "sitting on the fence is not an option" - those two things are mutually exclusive ("Any colour you want as long as it's black"...). Perhaps if you say "Sitting on the fence is not an option for me"...
