Here's a theory.
RG gets bad publicity for selling his citrus shares at a very astute time.
He's stung by the criticism.
Decides next time he buys shares in the hope of a big return (i.e. a months ago when he bought more BYR) he's going to make sure no-one can point the finger.
So he goes mega early knowing he's getting in well before any announcement and so can't be criticised.
Question is ... how early?
