Hi Bendigo
I have something called 'scleroderma', was virtually unknown in OZ and considered quite rare until a few years ago. Well documented in the US now, but still considered something of a rarity.
The immune system breaks down and the body attacks itself, instead of healing itself.
The actual truth lays somewhere between the 'genes' and exposure to chemicals.
It has been determined that only exposure to certain chemicals can cause this reaction,
however the companies involved dismiss any relationship with their product.
Sounds similar to the cigarette companies, and james hardie and their asbestos products denying any connection.
In my case I am hopeful the truth will come out one day and they will find a cure,
I doubt that I will survive long enough to see the cure,
but others may benefit.
I had a friend who had that horrid thing (out of touch now) and was unaware of the relationship at the time between the genes and the chemical exposure.
If I could afford the time, I would do a lot of things, including writing to various research institutions to assist in their research.
cheers
