The CSG projects are projects of national significance. There is simply no way over $100B worth of projects are going to be canned for 'minor' environmental issues.
I predict they will be allowed to proceed with stricter monitoring conditions as soon as the election is over. The environment buys a few votes, sure, but $100B buys a lot more.
When it comes to environmental issues, they don't come much more minor than Cougar's, but the government needs a scapegoat to deflect attention from the CSG issues (just note how eager they have been on DERM's announcements to point out the difference between CSG and UCG).
This entire issue is political opportunism at its most base.
