    Something which is interesting is the fact that most humans live quite comfortably with amazing inner contradictions. There is no active resolution of those opposites because they are never experienced or even seen at the same time. In other words there is no reconciling perspective able to include these opposites.

    So for example, the pious Priest prays fervently to God, begs for mercy and forgiveness of sins for himself and others, then as his favourite alter boy walks past, forgets all that and becomes the predatory paedophile.
    If questioned, he would admit this contradiction in his mind but he never really experiences that gross contradiction ... it would require too much suffering ... the only thing that actually might help.

    That is an easily recognized example but in general it is one of the main reasons people find actual change very, very difficult.
    Even though the mind may know about these contrary impulses they are never experienced at the same time and so the dance of opposites continues with no resolution.
