If someone follows god and benefits from it? How do we know that any supposed benefit came from the god that he/she follows? Couldn't any benefit, real or imagined, have just been pure chance? Unless of course, this god told them that that the benefit that they received came from god because he had followed god.

If there is no such thing as god it won't make any difference to the one that follows god. They will continue to believe because of choice or previous brain washing.

Let's just accept that this person believes in god and accepts that anything judged by him/her to be good or beneficial, must have come from god. Since we have no proof one way or the other regarding the existence of god then choosing to believe doesn't make it true. Therefore any supposed benefit supposedly derived from this belief must be psychological.

But here's the rub. The scientific method has taken us a long way. We know that it works because TV's work, cars work, radio's work. If the scientific method didn't work then neither would these gadgets. But when it comes to god, forget the scientific method, because he/she requires faith. No rigorous experimentation or investigation. Just accept and believe or burn for eternity. Yeah nah.
