I heard an interesting theory the other day that Neanderthals almost wiped out humans as they were much bigger/stronger and attacked/killed/raped/ate us. But a fairly small population of humans banded together and survived. This group was particularly aggressive (psyco) and with their superior intelligence and aggression fought back until they eventually killed off all the neanderthals.

All modern humans apparently came from this fairly small group and they suggested that we are now struggling today to remove that (inherent) aggression out of society.

The whole thing was more detailed than that - I think they had some genetic evidence to back up the theory. I also remember them theorising that women began using perfume to disguise their scents to avoid be raped by the neanderthals (who apparently could smell an ovulating woman from a long way - just as other animals are able to).

Anyway bit off topic but an interesting theory.
