The aABC breakfast news ran a poll that showed the publics' attitude to the whinging of retailers over imported purchases avoiding GST.
IT WAS NOT POSITIVE FOR THE HIGH STREET!!!
The main point was that the difference between the prices was multiple times more than the GST component, so 'Joe Publi' have worked out that the retailers have been creaming them for years..... rightly or wrongly, the perception is that retailers care only for themselves, not their customers and with all the added huh-hah in the press over this, they will continue to shop on line regardless of GST being aded or not and the big retailers will suffer.
This leaves very lean pickings for big Gerry over the run up for Xmas and the New Year, with profit levels minimal if any GP at all, as the only buyers restricted to making store purchases will be those needing Interest free.... that will cream a healthy 12% in their commission at least, off the bottom line. for the stores
The next stop for the S/p if sub $2.70 in my opinion. if it fails to get support there?? Who Knows!!
Many retailers will lack the liquidity to trade and big players Like Harveys will regret the recent Clive Peters foray as much as they do Ireland.
