My two cents: we knew already that midkine has potential/is effective as a biomarker in serum/urine samples. While only for a specific subset, this study revealed that midkine also showed promise for a specific subset of malignancies when measured in needle washout. So apart from measuring blood/serum and urine concentrations, the study suggests a different method (needle washout) could also provide insight into certain malignancies.
