nortiba, the company Aracruz has gone but the Aracruz mill, in the coastal Barra do Riacha district of the municipality of Aracruz, is alive and well.
It it really three pulp mills on the one site, with the last unit (C) commissioned in 2002, so it's a long way off being scrapped. It can produce 700,000 tpa compared to the GNS project's 1.2m tpa. Combined output of the three mill is around 2m tpa.
This magnitude capacity is what is meant by "world scale" when GNS refers to its project. It's also why it's project will be competitive with South America.
Aracruz, as a company, disappeared when it merged with Votorantim Celulose e Papier (VCP) to form Fibria in 2009.
