so - you are going to build a wide tank 100 METRES deep ----- on top

then - you are going to let it fall when it's full - to a generator that is at the apx. 300 metre deep mark in your pit (a head of 400 m ) - then pump water back up from the 300 metre deep mark -- to your top tank - against a head of 400 metres

now - your head pressure is

400 m when your depth in hole is 300 m

300 m when your depth in hole is 200 m

100 m when your depth in hole is surface

are you meaning that your hole only ever holds 300 metres of water - or do you mean that your hole working depths vary between surface and 300 m

I got a bit confused there???

if you meant you were only using the bottom 300 - then, the calculations would be different of course - just as problematic though.

And, even if one could make this system work -- I have no doubt one could use it to generate power - recharging it could be a hell of a problem though - but, lets get over that - even if one could get it to work -

who exactly is going to pay for it???????????

Pinto, I don't believe that you have any idea of what we are talking about.
The depth of water in the hole never gets any deeper than 300metres (or whatever the required amount between recirculation cycles is)
The generating head is from the top of the storage at the surface, to the generator, period. It only varies by the variation in the stored head.
Once the water exits down the tail race, it is irrelevant to generating capacity or head. The depth in the hole is only relevant to the energy required to pump it back up to storage at the surface.
