Castleconnell, I hear you and you make a valid argument about our ignorance of overseas agriculture standards.
I buy a cheap electronics and machines from China, but don't expect too much. But an absolute rule: NEVER buy any food from China.
We do have wonderfully grown fruit here---but let's face it: it is bloody tasteless.
Tomoatoes, strawberries, grapes, watermelon....absolutely tasteless compared to what they used to be.
As I write I am eating cherries from California. Comparable to ours (not much taste) but I don't know how they were grown.
I'm sure though that the US authorities wouldn't allow them to be laced with cyanide, lol....
