I think you need to take a step back for a moment. Purple fringing is on the outer edges and does not explain a volume area of many shades of the purple and its density. From my understanding of what you are trying to say is that its only a very light coloured shading of purple or violet.
Does not explain the very dark patches covering areas that the guys are trying to show and does not fall in your catergory. After another look I tend to side that it is actually in the core itself and not your fringing theory.
