Exactly.
" It is a tall story told by industry interests and captured pollies to slow the end of fossil fuels. "
And this is the problem with Dutton and his RWNJ mates. They are deliberately trying to mislead the public to create a bit of distraction.
He has nothing of substance to offer so he is just going down the shock jock route.
The facts are:
Off the shelf proven commercial grid SMR's do not exist and are a decade away at best. Given the rate of renewable/firming/evs uptake in Australia, they have no hope of competing with much cheaper renewables. They are nothing more than non existent white elephants.
Dutton claimed the nuclear supplies 60% of Canada's power. He is lying.
From the World Nuclear Association :
" About 15% of Canada's electricity comes from nuclear power, with 19 reactors mostly in Ontario providing 13.6 GWe of power capacity. "
Dutton proposes placing multiple SMRs at existing coal baseload sites. Apart from community rejection , many multiple SMRs instead of couple of large reactors is the least effficient use of the technology.
The COAL-lition is dead. The best they can do is lie to the public in a sad pathetic attempt to remain relevant.
lt is time to flush the COAL-lition dunny and get rid of the turds.
